What’s in Your Concentrate? How a Cannabis Plant Becomes The Clear

The Clear™ is known for being the purest cannabis concentrate on the planet. But to get from plant to purified concentrate takes a number of pivotal steps and a lot industry-leading technology.

At The Clear™, we take the extra time and go further to ensure the cleanest concentrate, free from plant-matter byproducts and other residuals. We’ve purchased top-of-the-line equipment and modified it to be even better. And we’ve invested in research to make sure the final product that emerges from the extraction and distillation process is as pure as scientifically possible.

Step 1: Start With the Best Plants

Many companies start with leftover plant material, but only the highest-quality plants go into our exclusive machines. Put simply, we don’t use material that doesn’t meet our standards. It’s an expensive choice, but our product is worth it, and our customers understand that.

Step 2: Extraction

In many states we use a CO2 extraction process and a proprietary distillation process that involves no hydrocarbon solvents and no harmful chemicals.

Many concentrate makers consider the process finished once the solvents have been removed, and at this point they package their BHO and send it to the dispensary. But at The Clear™, we’re just getting started.

Step 3: Chill and Purify

First we “winterize” the mixture to freeze the plant-based fats out of the solution. The liquid we use to super-chill the extract is a natural, corn-derived ethanol. In this separation process, we use different temperatures and vacuum pressure to separate out the plant compounds—a.k.a. cannabinoids like THC—that we want to keep and get rid of the ones we don’t. If the resulting product is anything less than 85 percent THC, we run it through the process again, to obtain the purest product possible.

Step 4: Filter

Then we use a proprietary filter press that ultra-refines the oil. At this point, you could drink the resulting cannabis oil and it would not get you high. Just like you have to apply flame to a bowl of cannabis flower or heat to cannabutter to trigger its intoxicating properties, we have to add heat to “activate” the naturally occuring acid form of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC-A) to convert it to THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis. This process, known as decarboxylation, is performed at precise temperatures to ensure the cannabinoids don’t degrade.

Step 5: Evaporate Again

We use another piece of proprietary equipment, an evaporator machine, to remove any remaining plant material and undesirable compounds, and obtain incredibly pure and potent THC distillate. We created our own machinery for this step that is specially built for cannabis and hemp.

Step 6: Achieve Maximum Purity

Where other manufacturers stop, The Clear™ takes one last special step that puts it ahead of everyone else. We put the first round of distillate into our house-designed and manufactured “still,” which takes the cannabis extract and makes it The Clear™.

Why The Clear is Hands-Down the World’s Best Cannabis Concentrate

There’s a reason we call our product The Clear™: It’s the cleanest, clearest oil out there. We guarantee it’s at the very least 85 percent THC, but it is often even purer.

We’ve patented the processes and equipment that we’ve developed to make the world’s purest extracts. But we’re still not satisfied: We’ll keep innovating and fine-tuning our refining techniques, using the latest technology to make the Clear™ better all the time, and to bring new products to the market.

Green and Clean From Seed to Extraction: How The Clear Sets the Industry Standard for CBD and THC Concentrates

Green and Clean From Seed to Extraction: How The Clear Sets the Industry Standard for CBD and THC Concentrates

The Clear™’s commitment to producing the purest cannabis concentrates on the market starts at the seed level.

The difference between The Clear™ and other products is that most other concentrate manufacturers use their leftover plant material to create their oils instead of the flower, where most of the cannabinoids and terpenes are located. Many of our competitors’ main source of revenue is selling flower, so they use only trim or shake that doesn’t make the cut for the dispensary sales floor, sometimes including plants with mold or spider mites. Considering how microbial contamination will not show up in testing after the affected plants are processed, the motto they use is, “Just blast it,” as they put poor-quality plant bits into cheap equipment.

We agree: Ewww.

On the other hand, plants grown for The Clear™ are of the highest possible quality, and we use premium flower for our oils, because concentrates are all we do.

That standard for excellence starts with the soil we grow our plants in. We don’t use nitrates or synthetic pesticides, which can leave a nasty taste that lingers in concentrates, and have been connected to causing illness in consuming patients.

All of our hemp-derived CBD concentrates start with plants grown by local Colorado farmers with industrial hemp certifications. And for our THC concentrates sold in Colorado, our sister company Bonsai Cultivation ensures plants meet their full potential. Bonsai Cultivation has won dozens of industry awards, including multiple High Times Cannabis Cups and THC Championships.

Bonsai shares our belief that all segments of the cannabis industry need to be conscientious about our impact on the planet, from what we put in the ground and water to our energy consumption and water use.

Bonsai’s state-of-the-art cannabis cultivation facility incorporates the latest in ecologically friendly techniques, including top-level technology for irrigation and automated plant feeding. The cultivation team reclaims and reuses 1,000 gallons of reverse-osmosis water produced each cycle by facility dehumidifiers. They also work to reduce waste by composting everything from soil to stems to fan leaves.

The Bonsai team’s focus on being as energy efficient as possible includes stepping down their power consumption for all lighting and mechanical equipment. Their energy-efficient HVAC system uses water chillers that reduce their energy consumption by 33 percent. They have created a special layout for their double-ended lighting system that reduced their facility’s lighting needs by 400 fixtures.

That system and techniques of managing their plant canopy with specially designed trellising mean they can produce the same yield with 40 percent less energy consumption. They also rotate the flower cycles in each room so that they only use 50 percent of their cooling capacity at any time. They also manage peak demand for energy use by offsetting times for power needs.

Bonsai is as green as they can be, and they set the standard for our THC cultivation partners in other states.

The old saying “garbage in, garbage out” definitely applies to concentrates. After proper curing, we put only the cleanest plant material into our proprietary extraction equipment. And it shows.

The Clear™ concentrates smell, taste and test better, with incredible purity and potency. There is a difference, and our satisfied, loyal customers recognize it.

Why Is the World’s Top-Selling Cannabis Concentrates Brand Getting Into the CBD Market? Let Us Tell You

Why Is the World’s Top-Selling Cannabis Concentrates Brand Getting Into the CBD Market? Let Us Tell You

Why would an industry-leading cannabis brand known for its pure, potent THC concentrate products decide to branch into the CBD market?

Frankly, although we’ve spent five years building our THC product line, it wasn’t a difficult decision to bring The Clear into the cannabidiol (CBD) marketplace.

The Clear™ already holds a significant percentage of the vape cartridge category in the lucrative cannabis concentrates industry. But CBD products give us even more options and flexibility, and that’s what is fueling our expansion into America’s robust CBD market.

First, clinical data on the positive effects of CBD on various medical conditions continues to roll in. In December, the World Health Organization issued an important report that stated CBD is not harmful, has health benefits and does not have abuse potential, among other findings. While there have been years of anecdotal evidence, finally having scientific studies to point to is a critical component for helping educate people as to the effectiveness of CBD.

Second, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is beginning to open the door to cannabidiol products, with an advisory panel in April unanimously voting in favor of approving GW Pharma’s cannabis-derived CBD medication Epidiolex for treatment of certain forms of epilepsy

Third, more and more states are legalizing cannabis in various forms, and low-THC or CBD-only laws have been enacted in at least 15 states, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. The Senate, meanwhile, has fast-tracked Sen. Mitch McConnell’s bill that would nationally legalize hemp, which would vastly improve the domestic economics of hemp-derived CBD. Awareness of CBD products and their benefits will only continue to grow as more people encounter legalized medical marijuana, medical hemp and patients using these products.

While modern cannabis is consumed in a number of different ways, including edibles and tinctures, non-smokable cannabis products are a key component of state medical marijuana laws in places like Minnesota, Texas, Florida and New York.

And vaporized CBD fits the bill nicely.

While we are encouraged by the 29 states that allow medical marijuana and the nine that have legalized adult-use cannabis, we believe consumers in every state should have access to potent, pure cannabis extracts now. To ensure this, we extract our CBD from US-grown hemp that is certified compliant with the 2014 Farm Bill.

And because the terpenes that give our products flavors like Orange Creme and Potent Pineapple are not cannabis-derived, we can send products that incorporate them in most states and many countries.

We believe The Clear will become a CBD market leader, just as it has been in state-regulated THC marketplaces. Initial sales figures in our CBD product test markets—Arizona, Colorado and California—already tell us that our move to CBD is the right one. In Colorado and California, which have been big markets for our THC products, we exceeded our THC sales in just a matter of months. And that was without marketing, simply making the CBD products available. As we start to market these products, the potential for our CBD products is huge.

Conversely, as the volume of CBD sales rises, it will augment the THC side of our business by boosting brand awareness. When consumers become familiar with the superior technology and unique flavors of our CBD products, they can easily move over to our THC offerings sold in state-regulated dispensaries. It’s a force multiplier for our business.

And beyond those regulated dispensaries, there is powerful potential in distribution to unregulated vendors where CBD products are currently sold: pharmacies, smoke shops, retail health-and-wellness businesses, spas, drug stores and more. And the cannabis product trend is not just domestic—our partners are planning to bring our products to Europe and Japan, and then to other markets in Asia.

Consumers are also hungry for science-based, lab-tested CBD products that will provide positive experiences for those who have not found success with inconsistent off-the-shelf CBD products. Reliability, efficacy and quality are key for consumers, and with products like The Clear™, consumers know how much CBD they are consuming with each puff of the vaporizer.

From providing relief for those suffering from chronic pain or terminal illnesses, to killing a craving for nicotine, there are so many potential benefits, applications and avenues for CBD products. In the coming years as companies like The Clear™ continue to expand cannabinoid research and develop new methodologies for producing cannabis extracts, and as more states support a wider variety of CBD products, we believe the CBD market has limitless potential—and we are honored to bring a better CBD product to the market for these customers and patients.
